Perspective

"What we see depends mainly on what we look for."
-John Lubbock

I find this quote interesting, because it is so true within our society. Most of us only focus on the negatives and some of us only see the positive, but the true way to live is to see everything with balance. Photography can become so bland if you don't find new ways to express yourself, and trust me I've had my share of the traditional "hey I'll take a bunch of pictures of you and we'll call it a day". I see so many photographers' works, and I realize the only way to make it matter is to do something different. This is getting really deep, but basically photography (not that I'm in anyway a professional or anything) is easily tiring by just taking pictures of the same thing. What's the fun in that? So based on this quote, I decided to do some perspective shooting and playing around with focuses and such. I really enjoyed this mini series, but sadly it started to rain halfway through and I had to return home. I'm thinking there will definitely be more of these in the future, but I can't even decide what to wear tomorrow so who knows.

Old Bridges & Starry Nights

This past weekend, I went to one of my dear friend's house for a last minute, impromptu sleepover with a few other good friends. We had so much fun opening the gag gifts we made her, watching horror movies and then heading down to the Pitt Street bridge. There was nobody on the bridge except for a couple (who we probably scared away), and the night light made all the pictures very focused and interesting. These pictures aren't serious in any way, but I think that's needed every once in awhile!

It was one of those "hey Natalie bring your camera" sort of things, but I ended up capturing some memories along the way. A 16th birthday is something everyone remembers, and we all had so much fun staying up all night, partying alone on the bridge, and scaring ourselves by watching horror movies. The pictures weren't the best quality, but for the time the camera perfectly captured these movements without overexposing like a phone camera does.

Natalie

Room Makeover!

 Hello everyone,  I am back! I haven't been posting lately because I have been very emotionally drained. So my mom decided I needed to stop moping about and re-do my child like room. Sadly I didn't take any before pictures but I am going to show you everything in my room and where I got them. I will also give you some room tips! Enjoy!
My mom gave me this mirror and I feel in love! Perfect!

This is my favorite!! I love love this clock so much; we got it again at Ross for $12

This tufted lounge chair! We got this at Ross for $83. Sadly it has some damage but lucky for us
the manager gave us 30% off so it went from 100-83.
These are the coolest shear curtains. I always felt like the shades I had where ugly but these are amazing.
We didn't buy these we found them today in an old box and washed them to make them good as new!

This is my new room with everything you could want! I love my room so much and I can't wait to make more memories in the two more years I have left in my home.

Thanks for reading Love you guys!

Good Eats: Maple Granola

Today I was aimlessly wandering through a collection of amazing blogs, and I was reading "10 in 20: Morning Meals" by one of my favorite blogs The Everygirl. And when I saw this link to make maple granola, I freaked out because I. Love. Granola. The only problem with this delicious, crunchy treat is that in today's society, companies pack granola with lots of sugar, preservatives, and other processed ingredients. That's why I have always wanted to make my own granola, and it was surprisingly easy.

What You'll Need:

3 cups of oats
1/4 cup of coconut oil
1/2 chopped walnuts
1/3 chopped almonds
5 tablespoons of maple syrup
1 tbsp. of raw honey
1/4 tsp. of salt
1/4 tsp. of vanilla extract

Directions:
The directions on the original blog post include mixing dry ingredients then heating liquids, but I threw everything into a bowl, mixed it up, cooked it, and then poof! I had delicious maple granola. I simplified the steps because it still tastes the same whatever way you make it...

1. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees
2. Mix all the ingredients together (it helps to mix dry first, then add wet, but whichever way you prefer)
3. Lay the granola on a pan with parchment paper
4. Bake for 20-30 minutes or until golden brown

Tips:
1. Whatever nuts you prefer can be substituted for the 1/3 cup of almonds and 1/2 cup of walnuts. I only had almonds (we're an almond loving family), and the granola still tasted fabulous.
2. When the granola first comes out of the oven, it isn't hard like it should be. I thought I had done something wrong, but let it cool and it'll turn out just fine.
3. If the granola isn't sweet enough, add a little organic cane sugar (can be found at Whole Foods)
4. Whole oats work a lot better than steel cut oats. Again, I had to work with what we had, and this meant I had to use steel cut oats instead. The granola wasn't as chunky, but still had a phenomenal taste!
5. If the granola isn't sticky enough before baking, add a little more honey and coconut oil. Adding more maple syrup will make the flavor overwhelming and we don't want this, so stick with honey and coconut for added "stickiness".

{all the ingredients minus vanilla}

{pre-cut almonds, I just guessed on the amount}

{it takes a long time to cut, use a food processor instead!}

{yum. honey.}

{does anyone love the smell of vanilla more than I do?}

{mix it well or it'll have a weird texture}

{yummy!}

I plan on adding some almond milk and fresh berries to my granola in the morning for a healthy start to the day!
Happy baking :)
Love,
Natalie
